What is Iasst [Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology]

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) is a leading research hub in the northeast. It was founded by the Assam Science Society and inaugurated by Nobel winner Dorothy C. Hodgkin on November 3, 1979. At first, it was the only independent research institute backed by the state government until March 2009. Later, the Indian Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology took charge. The institute do research in fields like Plasma Physics, Polymer Sciences, Biochemistry, Drug Design, Nano-science, Medicinal Plants, Seri Biotechnology, Microbial Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, and Microbial Fuel Cell.

Admission at IASST

For the Ph.D. program at IASST, candidates are chosen based on their entrance test and interview performance. The results will be posted on the IASST website. If you cleared exams like CSIR-UGC-NET/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/ICAR-JRF and hold a fellowship, you don’t need to take the written test but must attend the interview. You also need to write a short essay about your research interests related to IASST’s research areas.
